In a recently published article by The Sydney Morning Herald, it has been revealed that Qatar Airways has been named the world’s best airline for 2024 at the World Airline Awards.
However, Qantas has continued to fall in the rankings. Last year, Qantas was ranked 17th in the world – the airline has now dropped to number 24. This ranking proves to be a new low for the airline which was ranked the fifth-best airline in 2022.
Other Australian airlines also received bad results in this year’s ranking. Virgin Australia fell from 46th to 54th place and Jetstar fell from 69 to 74. Rex was the only Aussie airline to rank higher this year in comparison to previous years, moving from the 56th position to number 50.

Qatar Airways has been awarded the title of the world’s best airline for 2024, however, in 2023 this title belonged to Singapore Airlines. Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways have been fighting for the top position for years. Qatar Airways was number one in 2022, 2021, 2019, and 2017, and Singapore Airlines was number one in 2018 (there was no ranking for 2020.)
