Another season of The Voice is underway. Over 60 bright talents sang their hearts out in an attempt to turn one of those red chairs, housed by last year’s winning mentor Guy Sebastian, as well as Rita Ora, Jessica Mauboy, and Keith Urban.

Following last year’s winner Bella Taylor Smith will be a hard task, but the competition already looks fierce.
After proving their talent in the blind auditions, the show’s contestants still had a hurdle to face as the judges were forced to cull their teams to six ahead of the battles.
Now, they’re facing off in the battle arena to prove they deserve a spot in the Semi-Finals. Here’s who the coaches decided to put through.
Team Keith

Thando Sikwila
Bringing her three-year-old daughter, Charlie, along for her audition, Melbourne singer-songwriter Thando Sikwila showcased her impressive pipes during a rendition of Chaka Khan’s I’m Every Woman.
“There is nothing wrong with following your ambitions and still wanting to be a mum. It is possible to live your dreams,” Thando said, adding that it was her daughter that “inspired” her to take the Voice stage.
“I think that whatever you do and wherever you go, it’s going to be spectacular,” Rita told her after the audition.

Lane Pittman
Mullet-clad Lane’s country twang captivated the audience through his performance of Even Though I’m Leaving by Luke Combs.
All coaches turned around for the 15-year-old, but he ultimate chose Keith.
“These country kids, they’re tougher, they’re bred differently,” Guy said in awe.
Team Jess

Faith Sosene
After an emotional performance of Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion, dedicated to her mum who she takes care of every day, 24-year-old Faith moved all four judges.
Jess, in particular, was touched by the audition and gave the winning pitch to the singer, surprising Faith with the season’s first battle pass.
“I just couldn’t believe I was getting a standing ovation and four chair turns,” Faith told New Idea.

Jael Wena
After appearing on The Voice Generations with her family, Jael decided to try auditioning as a solo artist. The 16-year-old impressed all four mentors with her performance of How Will I Know by Whitney Houston, joining team Jess.
“I hope I’m ready to go out alone,” Jael said before her audition.
Team Rita

Lachie Gill
Melbourne P.E. teacher Lachie was bound for the AFL field before his passion for music usurped his career plans.
“As soon as I could walk I had a footy in my hand. I was one step away from my dream of playing footy at the highest level, but music started to take over,” he revealed.
“Ultimately I had to choose. I love footy, but I love music even more.”

Xanthe Campbell
Tackling Billie Eilish’s hit song Happier Than Ever, 17-year-old Xanthe earned two chair turns from Rita and Jess – the only coaches with spaces left on their teams.
“It was like the script was written for you,” Rita said about her performance, before the singer joined her team.
Team Guy

Jordan Tavita
An emotional performance of Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror earned 23-year-old Jordan four chair turns, though he eventually chose to join Guy’s team.
“This is going to be the first time that I’m going to be able to make a change… by just taking the first step,” Jordan said in the lead up to his audience.

Cassidy Mackie
While playing the piano, 26-year-old Cassidy moved the judges with her emotional performance of King of Wishful Thinking by Go West, earning her three chair turns (excluding Keith who had already filled his team).
“You made a hole in my heart sissy,” Jess told the performer, who ultimately chose Guy’s team.
