Karl Stefanovic has got the last laugh on his haters, reappearing on his former TV home, the TODAY Show, this morning, to boast of his latest assignments.

The star, who was unceremoniously ditched from TODAY late last year amid bad publicity about his private life and declining ratings, appeared via satellite from stunning Hawaii – and he looked like the cat that got the cream.
‘I am on assignment here for 60 Minutes,’ he enthused. ‘This is the first location of many around the world over the next few weeks for me, so it’s a lovely place to start.
‘It’s a balmy 89 degrees out here and about 92 in the studio, so it’s beautiful.’
The spiel earned a predictable reaction from Karl’s former colleague Deborah Knight, who responded, ‘All right, stop bragging, we know you’re doing some work.’
Things then progressed to Karl flogging his gig on This Time Next Year.
‘It makes for compelling TV, and Karl Stefanovic it is so fabulous to have you back on the box,’ gushed Georgie Gardner, with everyone ignoring the star’s recent troubled past with both the show and the Nine network.
‘We cannot wait for this series, and best of luck also with your 60 Minutes assignment.’
Deborah got the last laugh by chipping in, ‘I’m on assignment, that’s right, very serious.’
Karl earlier this week claimed there was ‘no chance’ he would return to TODAY, amid rumours the network might want him back.
‘I’ve just been busy doing other things,’ he told Kyle and Jackie O.
Even during his run on breakfast TV, it had long been reported that Karl wanted to make as break for prime time TV, but a wish to skip to 60 Minutes seemed unlikely to come true after staff were reported to be offended by Karl’s ubergate comments about the show.
