The former rugby player, who has been married to the queen’s granddaughter for eight years, made the revelations during an interview in Japan, ahead of the England team’s semi-final clash with New Zealand last Saturday.
Speaking to Alex Payne on the House of Rugby podcast, Mike referred to his wife by his pet name for her, which is ‘Zoey’.
The revelation came about during their chat, as Mike and fellow former rugby player James Haskell were challenged to a game of ‘would you rather’.
And the first question was put to Mike, 41, who was asked if he would rather marry a royal or win the World Cup.
Mike, who was part of the England squad who won the cup in 2003, responded: “Well I’ve done both technically, but… s***.”
Mulling over his answer, he continued: “Well hang on, will it be my wife, that I’m marrying?”
Alex responded: “Yeah, would you rather marry Zoey or win the World Cup?”
Then Mike asked: “Could we take Zoey out of it? Cause obviously if it’s my wife I would marry my wife.”
His response generated a series of “Awws!” around the table.
Cheeky Mike has never followed many of the royal rules, which was apparent when he joined Instagram earlier this month.
As an apparent slight on his wife and her family, he doesn’t follow any of the royals.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, use their @SussexRoyal account, Prince William and Kate Middleton use the @KensingtonRoyal account, and even Princess Eugenie has her @PrincessEugenie account.
However, despite Mike and Zara being close to the royal family, especially Zara’s cousins Prince William and Prince Harry, the former rugby player has chosen not to follow any of the royals’ pages with his new account.
Mike has instead followed a host of sports stars and sporting accounts, as well as those of some of his famous friends.
Those given the nod of approval include Westlife singer Brian McFadden, TV presenters Ant and Dec, football star Cristiano Ronaldo and the British and Irish Lions accounts.
