The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are breaking with tradition this year and won’t spend the festive period at Sandringham with the rest of the royals, including the Queen.

In a statement from the Palace on Wednesday, it was revealed that the couple, along with their six-month-old son, Archie, will instead spend Christmas with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month. Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, [the couple] will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the duchess’ mother, Doria,” the statement reads.

“This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the royal family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”

Meghan, 38, spent her first Christmas with the royals at their Norfolk residence in 2017, shortly after she and Harry, 35, announced their engagement.

The news comes as Meghan is allegedly flying her mother, Doria Ragland to the UK for Thanksgiving, which is celebrated on November 28 in the US.

From what I know, they aren’t coming here [to Los Angeles]. Doria is going there for the holiday [Thanksgiving],” a royal source told The Daily Mail.

While the 63-year-old will spend the holiday at Frogmore Cottage with Meghan, Prince Harry and their son Archie Harrison, the insider says they won’t be celebrating Thanksgiving.

“They won’t be officially celebrating Thanksgiving because it isn’t a British holiday but Meghan is considering spending some of the day helping out at a homeless shelter in London,” the source said.
