Meghan Markle might be described as the most unconventional royal in modern history.
From her lavish, half a million dollar baby shower in New York City to her penchant for holistic medicine and home cooking at Frogmore Cottage in England, the Duchess of Sussex has brought a new energy to the house of Windsor (and then some).
And as rumours of a rift between the Sussexes and Cambridges intensify, it seems former actress Meghan is taking another step away from her traditional role in the royal family by restarting her writing career – with a position at Vogue, no less.

In a full circle moment straight from a fairytale, Meghan Markle – once the founder and editor of now-defunct lifestyle blog The Tig – will guest-edit the coveted September issue of British Vogue, Us Weekly reveals.
Like all high fashion magazines, British Vogue’s September edition is the biggest issue of the year, setting the tone for trends and sartorial ‘dos and don’ts’ for the 12 months ahead.
Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful, a renowned Ghanian-born stylist and the first black male editor of British Vogue, is said to have approved the collaboration with the Duchess of Sussex who is “planning to put her stamp” on the pages of the iconic publication.
In an interview for Vogue.com two days after Meghan’s royal wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018, Mr Enninful presciently remarked: “Diversity for me is not just about skin colour but of perspectives. It should be part of the language of the magazine always. That’s just what the world is.”
And if perspective is what the British Vogue editor is searching for, Enninful is sure to find it in volumes from the pen of American-born TV star turned Duchess Meghan Markle.
In addition to acting as guest editor, the 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex will reportedly contribute an opinion piece for fashion’s most important issue, as well as “bringing a selection of female change-makers on board to write their own personal essays”, a source tells Us Weekly.
No word yet on who these trailblazing women are, but the list could potentially include Meghan’s close confidantes Serena Williams, Priyanka Chopra and Amal Clooney.
Insiders claim the Duchess will also appear in “new photos that haven’t been taken yet”, with the photoshoot scheduled for next week at Meg and husband Prince Harry’s home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
The location could indicate that Harry and baby Archie will be included in the shoot, prompting speculation that Meghan and her boys may also be the cover stars of Vogue’s September issue.
Seasoned celebrity Meghan has appeared in many a glossy magazine before, most memorably appearing on the front cover of Vanity Fair’s October 2017 issue with the headline: “She’s just wild about Harry!”
As for the Duchess’ rumoured opinion piece, Cosmopolitan hopes Meghan reveals what she really thinks about US President Donald Trump, or better yet the truth about those enduring Prince William and Kate Middleton feud rumours.
We’ll have to wait until September to know for sure, but if the Duchess’ latest appearance is anything to go by all is not well at the Palace.
Meghan took a break from maternity leave to celebrate the Queen‘s official birthday at the annual Trooping the Colour parade in London on Saturday.
It was her first time in the spotlight since introducing baby Archie Harrison at a photocall in St George’s Chapel in Windsor last month.
Body language experts swiftly noted “obvious signs of tension” when Meghan and Harry arrived at Buckingham Palace in a carriage with the Duchess of Cambridge and Camilla Parker-Bowles.
Speaking to Express.co.uk’s Fabulous Digital, behavioural analyst Judi James revealed Kate Middleton showed “a lack of relaxation” while her posture was “slightly self-diminished”.
