As rumours of a royal rift between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle rumble on, the Duchess of Cambridge has reportedly started “making a real effort” with her new sister-in-law.

The claims – made by a palace insider to Vanity Fair – come days after the wives of Windsor put on an unusually united front at Westminster Abbey on Commonwealth Day.

The women warmly embraced one another and exchanged affectionate kisses on both cheeks, before chatting animatedly alongside their husbands Prince William and Prince Harry.

Vanity Fair noted it was “the most public show of affection ever witness between the two” and branded the move “a well-time display of unity”.

Royal sources revealed the Commonwealth celebration was heavily pregnant Meghan’s last official engagement before the birth of her first child next month, leading fans to wonder if the Duchesses’ used the occasion to put whispers to rest once and for all.

Speaking to VF, the informant said: “It’s not always been easy, there have been issues behind the scenes, but Harry and Meghan want to leave [before the birth] on good terms and Kate especially has been making a real effort.”

The Duchess of Cambridge, herself a mother-of-three, is said to have invited Meghan to ask for advice whenever she wishes.

Rumours of tension between the Duchesses surfaced after Meghan reportedly left Kate in tears after a dress fitting for Princess Charlotte in the lead up to last year’s royal wedding.
