You’ve heard of the grapefruit diet, the lemon detox and the cabbage soup plan but 29-year old Ryan Williams has developed a diet that seems far more palatable.

For 30 days he ate nothing but McDonald’s and, incredibly, during that time he shed 7 kilos as well as loosing body fat.

The postie from the UK figured the fast food chain had got a bit of bad rap from Morgan Spurlock’s famous Super Size Me documentary.

In the film Spurlock piles on 12 kilos over the course of his month long Maccas-eating spree but Ryan noticed the documentary-maker failed to do any exercise during that period. He was also chomping down an enormous 5,000 calories a day.

Ryan, in contrast, went to the gym for an hour a day during his challenge and ate only 2,500 of Macca-rich calories, the recommended intake for a man.

“Ever since I saw Super Size Me, I thought that the way he (Morgan Spurlock) did the experiment, was unfair,” Ryan said.

“He ate 5000 calories a day and didn’t do any exercise. I didn’t feel like it was a surprise he became so unhealthy.”

Ryan, who set himself a spend of between $27-$36 each day on McDonald’s, wanted to show it’s how many calories you eat and not what you eat that helps you get fit.

“I’m not suggesting that eating just McDonald’s is a healthy way of living, but I wanted to show that it’s purely a calorie game, as opposed to the types of food you eat,” he said.

Followers watched Ryan daily on his YouTube channel ‘Ry’ as he worked his way through the Maccas menu, eating everything at least once.

He started the month weighing 89kilos. He monitored his weight as he went and dropped his calorie intake to 2,300 by the end of the second week.

He also went from eating his calories over three meals to a diet which involved him eating them all in one sitting.

By the end of his challenge, Ryan was down to 82kg and had gone from 10.85 per cent body fat during a seven-site skinfold test, down to 7.59 per cent.

“I just hope that people see this and see the lightheartedness in it, and learn to worry less about the types of food they eat,” he said afterwards.
