Channel 9’s Today Show was rocked by news of a shock departure on Dec. 5.
The news came as sources told news.com.au of ongoing “tension” over host Karl Stefanovic.
The programme’s executive producer Mark Calvert stepped down from the role – with Channel 9 confirming the news in an email to staff by News Director Darren Wick, news.com.au reported.
“From personal experience, I know there is no more challenging role in news and current affairs than the daily breakfast battle between Today and Sunrise.
“It’s a national ratings race where audience loyalty fluctuates from city to city, and often suburb to suburb,” Mr Wick wrote.
Mark Calvert also emailed staff to say he was “looking forward to a bit of sleep” after his departure.
“I’m looking forward to the next big challenge, whether that’s at Nine, or elsewhere,” he added.
The Today Show’s star host, Karl Stefanovic, meanwhile is in Mexico with his bride-to-be Jasmine Yarbrough.
The pair are due to tie the knot in a ceremony attended by a host of celebrities in a matter of days.
However, it’s been a tough year for Karl – as ratings show Today was beaten by Channel 7’s Sunrise.
