Sarah Ferguson shares two daughters with Prince Andrew – Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie – and following Princess Beartrices’ surprising engagement announcement, the royal has announced she will be making history at the next Royal wedding.
According to a new change in British law that allows mother’s names to be on the marriage certificate, Sarah Ferguson will be the first Royal mother of a bride or groom recorded in the church records following, Beatrice’s wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Fergie’s youngest daughter, Princess Eugenie, married Jack Brooksbank in October 2018 before the law passed, but luckily for the Duchess of York, Princess’s Beatrice’s whirlwind romance will mean she’ll see another one of her daughters walk down the aisle within a year.

Following the engagement announcement, Fergie took to social media to express her happiness, revealing she cried “tears of joy”.
“I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy. I am so proud of this sensational news. Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons in law.”
“@princesseugenie took the colour photographs as my girls are so close. Beatrice and Edo wanted her to capture this special moment. The black and white photographs were taken by Misan Harriman,” Fergie finished.
Buckingham Palace released a statement announcing the couple’s impending 2020 wedding, which read: “The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York to Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Her Royal Highness and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi became engaged while away for the weekend in Italy earlier this month. The wedding will take place in 2020. Further details will be announced in due course.”
