She wed Prince Charles in 1981, however shocking claims have emerged suggesting the late Princess Diana wanted to marry his brother instead.
According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, Diana longed to be the wife of Prince Andrew.
“One of (Andrew’s) early chums was a certain Lady Diana Spencer whom he met when he was at Sandringham,” he wrote in his 1984 book Andrew: The Playboy Prince.
He went on to add: “As a youngster she (Diana) always said she was going to marry Andrew.
“Right family, wrong name.”

Meanwhile, a 2017 documentary titled The Diana Story backed up the explosive claims.
“We thought she’d be with Prince Andrew,” the Spencer’s former housekeeper Betty Andrews revealed.
Despite this, Diana went on to marry Charles, whom she met when she was 16 when he was dating her older sister Sarah Spencer.
Five years later, Andrew wed Sarah Ferguson only to separate in 1992.

In recent years, Andrew and Sarah have dubbed themselves the “happiest divorced couple” in the world, and it looks like they’re on track to remarry before the year is out.
Since the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May last year, the Duke of York and his flamed haired Duchess Fergie have gradually stepped back into the spotlight together, and sources tell New Idea the longterm lovers are “pulling out all the stops to make things official” before Fergie’s 60th birthday on October 15.
“Andrew is doing everything he can to bring Fergie back into the royal fold,” says a palace source.
