Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement last November, the Duchess of Sussex’s family have continued to make media headlines.
Whether it be her father, Thomas Markle, discussing details of their private conversations, to her half-sister Samantha using Twitter to claim her sister should be blamed if their father were to die.
However, despite the continuous slew of scandal coming from the ‘Markle Debacle’, Meghan and Harry have stayed hush-hush.
Richard Palmer, a royal correspondent, told The Royal Box, that Meghan needed to ‘step up.’
‘What I’d like to see is Meghan taking up the cudgels now on behalf of some charities, some big issues,’ he said.
‘She now has the power to make a real difference in the world,’ Palmer added. ‘I think that’s the way to change the conversation, to move it on and step it up.’

Following Meghan and Harry’s spectacular wedding, the royal family wasted not time updating the duchesses official page – outlining the former actress’ new role.
It stated that Meghan ‘will perform Royal duties in support of The Queen through engagements at home and overseas, alongside a growing portfolio of charitable work and patronages.’
The palace added that Meghan was now a patron of the Royal Foundation, an organisation Prince William and Harry founded in 2011 to pursue charitable interests.
But, despite this – Meghan’s engagements since her wedding have yet to see her pursue charitable endeavours.
The duchess has made 17 public appearances since marrying Harry, but two were weddings, two were polo matches, one was Wimbledon, and another Prince Louis’ christening.
Meghan, at the time of her wedding, claimed to be keen to ‘hit the ground running’, in her engagement interview in November 2017.
Claudia Jospeh, another royal correspondent, told The Royal Box, ‘The Thomas Markle interview is systematic of [the royal family’s] lack of understanding of the press.’
Richard then suggested Meghan and Harry need to ‘build bridges’ with Thomas – but also be confident he won’t leak what they’ve discussed.
‘This story will be a festering sore if the palace doesn’t do anything,’ Palmer concluded.
