As Princess Eugenie’s Royal Wedding to Jack Brooksbank nears closer, more details are slowly being released about the October 12 event.
Appearing to follow in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s footsteps, the royal’s wedding cake will break royal protocol.
Eugenie and Jack have chosen to serve a red velvet and chocolate design by London-based baker Sophie Cabot.
Traditionally, royal wedding cakes are Christmas-style fruit cakes so they will last long enough to be served at the couple’s first child’s christening.
Harry and Meghan choose a spring-inspired lemon elderflower flavor covered in buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers.
Eugenie was first introduced to Cabot through the Duke of York’s Pitch@Palace program for which she provided bespoke decorated cookies.
According to Buckingham Palace, Jack and Eugenie’s wedding dessert will be “a traditional cake, with a modern feel,” and will “incorporate the rich colours of autumn in its design.”
The cake will also feature sugar ivy, in a nod to Eugenie and Jack’s new home, Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace.
“I am incredibly excited to be given this wonderful opportunity to create such a special and unique cake,” Cabot said. “It has been lovely working with Princess Eugenie and Jack and I really hope they enjoy the cake on the day.”
