The late Princess Diana and Prince Charles got divorced in 1996, following a 15 year marriage. One of the major contributing factors to the breakdown of their marriage was the Prince of Wales’ ongoing relationship with his now wife Camilla Parker-Bowles.
In Diana’s own words, there were “three people” in her marriage.
In Andrew Morton’s controversial biography Diana: Her True Story, first published in 1992, Diana recalled “one of the bravest moments” of her marriage, a calculated confrontation with Camilla herself at a 40th birthday party for Camilla’s sister.
It was a nightmare come true for Prince Charles when he learned that Diana planned to attend the birthday party.

In the book The Duchess of Cornwall: Camilla’s Story and Secrets, author Jessica Jayne explains that Diana and Camilla had gone out a few times before Diana’s wedding to the future monarch.
Diana revealed in secretly-recorded tapes for a book by Andrew Morton, that “Charles and Camilla suddenly disappeared during the party, and Diana went to look for them.”
According to the book, Diana was “terrified” of Camilla but still decided to confront her.
According to Morton, Charles and Camilla had escaped downstairs to have a private conversation with a male friend.

Diana is believed to have found the three speaking, to which she told Charles and his companion: “OK boys, I’m just going to have a quick word with Camilla and I’ll be up in a minute.”
According to the book Diana recalled: “And they shot upstairs like chickens with no heads.”
The Princess then added: “I could feel, upstairs, all hell breaking loose — ‘What is she going to do?'”
Then, Morton describes Diana apologising for “being in the way” and scolded Camilla for treating her “like a child.”

Diana told Camilla: “I know what’s going on between you and Charles and I just want you to know that.”
Camilla’s response was: “You’ve got everything you ever wanted. You’ve got all the men in the world fall in love with you and you’ve got two beautiful children, what more do you want?”
“I want my husband”, the Princess replied, according to Morton.
