The Duke of Cambridge joined thousands of New Zealanders and Australians as they marked the day with a sombre service remembering those who died fighting for their country.

William did not make a speech at the event, but listened as Prime Minister Ardern gave a moving statement.

‘Let us recommit to always remembering our shared humanity, that there is more that united us than divides us,’ she said.

Security was notably high at the event, amid heightened awareness of potential terrorist threats.

William, who is on a two day visit to NZ without wife Kate, will also be attending events in Christchurch, to remember the terrorist attack on two Muslim houses of worship, in which 50 people were murdered.

Back in London, the Duchess of Cambridge will attend an Anzac service without her husband.
