It has been confirmed that Prince Charles will be the next head of the Commonwealth following Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
Commonwealth leaders meeting in London said in a statement that the next head of the organization “shall be His Royal Highness Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales.”
The announcement came after the Queen expressed earlier in the week that t was her “sincere wish” that Prince Charles would follow her in the role.

While the Queen has led the Commonwealth throughout her 66-year reign, the role is not hereditary, with some royal observers suggesting that a non-royal head would project a more modern image.
