“An attractive, clever, and ambitious girl from unexceptional beginnings meets and falls in love with a wealthy prince when they are both college undergraduates. Now, with the British monarchy in transition, Catherine is destined to become the first “commoner Queen” in British history since Anne Hyde, wife of James II.

“Since her wedding on April 29th, 2011–and since becoming the Duchess of Cambridge–Catherine has endeared herself to the people of the Britain and America with her extensive travels, with her infectious smile, sense of style, and down-to-earth nature. With her self-deprecation, willingness to laugh at herself, solid work-ethic–along with William’s warmth, and accessibility–this dynamic duo has become the most popular members of the royal family.

“As interest in the royals continues to gain legions of new, younger fans, there is increasing interest in the histories and back stories of the principal players in this story. Through the author’s connection with sources both on and off the record within the royal household, this dynamic new biography tells the full story of how Catherine became the woman she is today.”

Prince William broke up with Kate over a 30-minute phone call

A recent article by PEOPLE reports on an aspect of the new biography that delves into one of the low points of Kate and William’s romance when William broke up with Kate over the phone.

In Robert Jobson’s new biography Catherine, The Princess of Wales, the author discusses Kate and Will’s relationship after they graduated from the University of St. Andrews in 2005.

At this point, their relationship was getting serious with William regularly visiting Kate at her family’s house, signaling that the two may be heading toward an engagement. However, despite what the media was reporting, Kate knew that William was in no hurry to propose.

The breakup happened in January 2007 while William was serving in the military and the press was awaiting news of a royal engagement, according to the biography.

“Seemingly out of the blue, William — now a 2nd Lieutenant in the Blues and Royals — telephoned her to suggest that they split up,” Jobson writes, according to an excerpt of the book published by the Daily Mail.

“He told her they both needed ‘a bit of space’ to ‘find our own way’, and he was unable to promise her marriage. In an emotionally charged 30-minute conversation, they both acknowledged they were on ‘different pages.'”

Jobson continues, “It was a devastating blow to Catherine, who felt doubly let down at being dumped over the phone. Though it wasn’t the first time William had called time on their relationship, it felt final.”

Kate considered not using the title of Princess of Wales

According to Jobson’s book, Kate almost turned down the use of the title of Princess of Wales…

In another excerpt of the biography published by the Daily Mail, it is revealed that Kate was stressed about the comparisons being made between her and the late Princess Diana, resulting in her considering to following in Queen Camilla’s footsteps in refusing to be known as the Princess of Wales.

“She knew she’d inevitably be compared with Diana, whose untimely death had provoked such a tsunami of anger and grief. And she was right. The similarities and differences between the two women were dissected ad infinitum, and even discussed in the royal household,” Jobson writes.

“Kate found all such talk stressful. Indeed, it got to the point where she felt she might follow Camilla (who opted to become Duchess of Cornwall) in refusing—when the time came—to be known as HRH Princess of Wales.”

Prince William has had several “heated confrontations” with the rest of the royal family

An article published by Page Six reveals that Prince William reportedly clashed with King Charles and Queen Elizabeth over flying his family around the UK in a helicopter. According to the author of Catherine, the Princess of Wales, Prince William had various confrontations with his father and grandmother about the safety of flying himself and his family.

“One recent source of disagreement is William’s stubborn refusal to take his father’s advice on safeguarding the succession,” an excerpt from Jobson’s book, obtained by The Independent reads.

“Earlier this year, the King had raised concerns with his son about the wisdom of William using his helicopter to fly his entire family around the country.” The family’s concerns with Prince William flying allegedly stemmed from Queen Elizabeth who was “haunted by the 1967 crash that killed the Captain of the Queen’s Flight.”

Following Queen Elizabeth’s passing, Jobson says that King Charles continued to echo his mother’s concerns, however, William refused to stop flying with his family. According to the book, “Charles insisted that he sign a formal document, acknowledging the risks involved and taking full responsibility for his actions.”
