With the young royals racked by in-fighting, the Duchess of Cambridge is showing the strain. Leaving the palace on her way to what was meant to be a joyous family celebration to mark her mother’s birthday, Kate couldn’t hide her tears.
A royal insider tells New Idea how Kate’s relationship with sister-in-law Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has broken down almost irretrievably and that Princes William and Harry are barely communicating.
“Meghan and Kate’s feud has been heightened by Meghan’s consistent thinly veiled attacks on Kate’s parenting skills – drawing up her own parenting plan ahead of the birth, which is at odds with everything Kate and William do with George, Charlotte and Louis,” an insider says.
While Kate and William attempt to be very involved with their children, their busy royal schedules understandably mean they have to also rely on their nanny, Maria Borrallo, to help out.
It’s been extensively reported, however, that Meghan and Harry are determined to raise their children differently. They won’t hire nannies or give their children royal titles, and want to be very hands-on parents.
“[Meghan] often makes sly digs at how much Kate relies on her hired help – as well as having her family on hand to step in whenever she needs them, which Meghan won’t have the luxury of,” adds the insider.
“Kate snapped at Meghan recently when Harry revealed her parenting plan – accusing her sister-in-law of drawing up an ‘anti-Kate document’ just to spite her and try to subtly tear apart her parenting skills.”
The seven-months-pregnant duchess, who has always been vocal about her passion for healthy eating, has also made plain her disapproval of the fussy eating habits of Kate and William’s children.
“When Meghan used to visit for dinner and bath time, she’d make comments about the children’s eating habits – insisting she’d never allow her children to pick their meals and that hers would always eat whatever she and Harry ate – just as she did when she was growing up,” says the source, adding that Meghan also frequently comments on the children’s clothing and how she won’t be “bound by royal protocol” in reference to how Prince George will wear shorts until around his 8th birthday.
“Kate finds Meghan’s opinions and snobbery infuriating – especially when she has no idea of the realities of being a parent – and insists Meghan’s going to get a shock when she’s faced with motherhood and will no doubt be eating her words.”
But the latest upset was written all over Kate’s face. She appeared to be teary as she arrived at sister Pippa’s Chelsea home for their mother’s 64th birthday party last week – as rumours swirl of increasing tensions between the princes.
“Kate’s been infuriated by the way Meghan has come between Harry and William – blaming her for the brothers’ fractured relationship and accusing Meghan of purposely trying to drive a wedge between them because she’s jealous of their close bond.”
Adding further fuel to the fire last week was a new TLC documentary which revealed the original catalyst of the couples’ feud was William’s concern over his brother’s relationship with Meghan. Before the May 2018 wedding, William expressed his concern to Harry that things with Meghan could be moving too quickly.
In the documentary, royal expert Katie Nicholl explains that while William meant the comment to be “well- intended brotherly advice”, Harry took it the wrong way and saw his brother’s remarks as criticism. She adds: “He interpreted that as his brother not really being behind this marriage – this union – and I don’t think things have been quite right ever since.”
