Once upon a time, Princess Diana’s now famous engagement ring was viewed as the “commoners ring”.
The ring – which now belongs to Prince William’s wife Kate Middleton – was viewed that way because the People’s Princess picked the ring from a catalogue.

The uproar comes down to the fact that it was relatively unheard of that a royal would choose a ring that was “accessible to the public”.
The A$50,000 ring was inherited by Prince Harry who then passed it on to brother William, who proposed to Kate in Kenya.
He later UK television station ITV: “It’s my mother’s engagement ring, and it’s very special to me, as Kate is very special to me now as well.
“It was only right the two were put together. It was my way of making sure mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement.”
