If the average person takes 10,000 steps a day, we think it’s pretty important to pamper our feet.

And so does Karon McKendrick-Taylor, educator and trainer at Faby Nails, who reminds us just how to create the perfect pedicure at home.

1. Start by soaking your feet in a tub of warm milk for 15 minutes. The milk gently softens your skin, while the lactic acid helps to exfoliate. Pretend you’re Cleopatra.

2. Delicately remove calluses and dry skin by using products that contain glycolic or salicylic acid.

3. Exfoliate your toes using a mixture of salt, honey and moisturising lotion, then rub olive or walnut oil on your cuticles and gently push the cuticles back.

4. Trim nails and buff smooth with an emery board. Remember to always use a base coat to prevent staining before applying colour.

3 fast foot facts!

1. The toenail grows about 2mm to 5mm every month.

2. Combined, both feet contain a quarter of the bones in the entire body.

3. The average pair of feet spend about 16 hours a day in shoes.
