A Sunshine Coast University study of 1200 people has found that 41 per cent of participants aged between 18 and 30 have developed a bony lump at the rear of their skulls, known as a spur, due to phone-related bad posture.

Such spurs generally don’t appear until later in life, but in a new trend, they’re starting to present in patients as young as 13.

Researcher Dr David Shahar told Sunrise, ‘The issue is being created by people engaging in forward head protraction for long periods of time.’

The good news is that improved posture can help avoid the disturbing condition.

‘Posture maintenance is imperative from an early age,’ he says.

‘Just as we have educated children to maintain oral hygiene, I think it’s important to promote good posture.’
