Raising awareness for breast cancer, and the need for women to get an annual mammogram, Armytage visited Breast Screen – a nationwide free breast screening service for women in Australia – to receive her first ever mammogram.

On the segment, Armytage reveals that she received a call back with doctors telling the popular television host that there was ‘an area of concern’ on her right breast.

Immediately, Sam thought the worst.

The Sunrise host had to go back to the clinic for two more mammograms and an ultrasound.

‘It was a very scary day,’ she recalls. ‘The test took five hours, and I didn’t know what the doctors would find.’

Luckily, Sam was given the all clear, but was told that she would have to receive an annual mammogram from now on.

According to Sunrise, 1 in 20 women receive a callback following their mammogram. However, 90% of women who are recalled for further tests are not diagnosed with cancer.
