May the back-peddling begin.
Yesterday, the Sydney Morning Herald broke the news that The Bachelor’s ‘astrophysicist’ Matt Agnew was actually working as a data analyst for the National Australia Bank.

Releasing a statement to 10Daily, Matt explained that he was not working for NAB, rather his holds a job as a ‘data scientist’ with analyst company Quantum.
“Like anyone wishing to advance in their career, I’ve taken a job that will give me an extra skillset, hopefully leading to the space exploration side of space down the track,” Matt began.
“I ultimately plan on using my mechanical engineering, astrophysics, and data science background to find solutions to the goals outlined by the newly minted and growing Australian Space Agency, or the burgeoning private space sector.”
So data science will help with space exploration?
Hmmm, ok.
While our Bachie Matt uses a lot of fancy words, it is important to note that a ‘data scientist’ is still an analyst that solves problems within the fields of business and IT, not space.
Hoping to clarify further that he is not a ‘banker’ (nor a working astrophysicist), Matt joined the Kyle and Jackie O show this morning to explain his work as a data scientist.
“Before I went in filming I was working as an astrophysicist, that was all correct,” Matt told the KIIS FM hosts.
“I was still employed as an astrophysicist during filming [and] I finished up some stuff after filming, then I moved into a position as a data scientist.”
“So you’re still using your scientific brain?” asked Kyle.
“So I started working with data science consultancy called Quantum. In the two months that I’ve worked for them, I think I’ve had two maybe three meetings at one of the NAB offices and this was sufficient to create a story that apparently I’m a banker.”
Well, I guess we have our answer, Matt is in fact a data scientist.
