Sam has previously been open about her struggles with depression and anxiety, which lead to the actress teaming up with her sister to create a network which supports women across the country, acting as a handy resource for people who may be struggling with mental health.
Discussing the issues of toxic technology and relationships, hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Edmur began the interview by enquiring how and why the Home and Away star decided to launch her own website.
“I have struggled with mental health for all of my life, and when I was on the radio I was talking about my battles quite publicly, and a lot of people were reaching out to me with similar experiences.
“I take my responsibility quite seriously being in the public eye and with young women looking up to me, and I thought this is a perfect opportunity to create a mental health hub where people can hear like-minded stories and find support networks like Lifeline and Beyond Blue.
“They’ve got amazing resources available for people that might be too scared to reach out or not know where to look.”
Reflecting on her past as season one’s winner of The Bachelor, only to be publicly dumped by Blake Garvey, Sam revealed it was a time when all her mental health issues came to a head.
“I’ve always been a sensitive soul and I feel things really deeply. It seemed like everyone was looking at what was happening and it was a really isolating experience, I can’t even begin to describe how it felt.”
Sam continued: “Everyone knows you’re business, and you know when someone leaves you for someone else it’s embarrassing enough when it’s a small group of friends, let alone all of Australia watching it happen.”
Sam then added that seeking help was her first point of call: “So I certainly did rely on my friends and my family, and I started seeing a psychologist.”
When host Larry asked if it was difficult to write about her past toxic relationships for the site, Frost admitted that it was tricky, but necessary: “Writing about my experience in a toxic relationship was certainly difficult to do.
“I didn’t even know I was in a toxic relationship until I started seeing a psychologist and she said to me you are actually in an emotionally abusive relationship. And I couldn’t even see it, because I didn’t know enough about it.”
The discussion then turned from toxic relationships to the toxic world of social media, with Sam expressing the importance of a social media ‘detox’.
“It’s so important to do a digital detox, I do it all the time.
I’ll delete the app then maybe I’ll spend two weeks without it because I think its really important to take some time out because it can be really consuming.”
Sam has since confirmed that Believe by Sam Frost is set to also become a book and a podcast.
