On the same day he announced his retirement, The Daily Telegraph revealed the AVO was upheld against the 30-year-old Rabbitohs forward.

Sam was issued with a temporary apprehended violence order on Saturday, October 19, after a clash with Mitchell Hooke in Bowral, with a court listing at Moss Vale on November 9, according to public records.

Sam is thought to have been visiting his children, two-year-old Poppy and 10-month-old Billy, who are believed to have relocated to Bowral with their mother Phoebe after their split.

Mitchell reportedly asked Sam to leave the family’s three-hectare Glenquarry farm – which Burgess did – but police were called about 5 pm.

A police statement issued to The Daily Telegraph about the incident read: “About 4 pm on Saturday 19 October 2019, police were called to an address at Glenquarry, east of Bowral, in relation to a domestic dispute,” police said in a statement.

“Police from The Hume Police District attended and an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order was applied for on behalf of a 63-year-old man.

“Following further inquiries, on Wednesday 30 October 2019, a 30-year-old man was charged with the offence of Intimidation (DV related).

“It’s alleged the man intimidated the older man during the incident.”

It hasn’t been a good few weeks for Sam. Earlier on Wednesday, he announced his retirement from NRL as a result of a chronic shoulder injury that blighted his 2019 NRL season.

“This decision was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make in my life,” he said.

“However the decision was out of my hands essentially. I am no longer able to be myself day-in, day-out on the training field and consequently the playing field.”

“I have loved absolutely every minute: the highs, the lows, the grand final, coming home, my injuries, my dates with the judiciary. It really has been a fantastic ride.”

This week, he was also romantically linked with Married At First Sight star Jessika Power, but she has since, sort of, denied those rumours.

On Sunday, leaked footage showed Sam partying on a yacht in Cabo, Mexico, with a bikini-clad woman on his shoulders – despite his shoulder injury. He was there to celebrate the 50th birthday of NRL star Sean Garlick with his brother and fellow rugby player, Luke Burgess.

Earlier this year, Sam split from wife Phoebe three weeks after the birth of his second child Billy Mark.

The split came after Sam was cleared of any wrongdoing in the sexting scandal that happened in September when Phoebe was 28 weeks pregnant.

Sam found himself at the centre of a video chat scandal after his Facebook account was reportedly used to send nude photos to a 23-year-old woman.

“I’m not angry. What hurts me the most is seeing my wife upset about what’s out there,” the father of two told reporters during a press conference at the Rabbitohs’ Redfern training headquarters.

They got back together in April but split again in October.

New Idea has asked Sam Burgess for comment.
