The A Beautiful Mind star earned more than $3.7 million after selling a range of artwork, jewellery and movie props at the event, which also happened to coincide with his 54thbirthday and followed his divorce from ex wife Danielle Spencer.

Russell even put in a surprise appearance at the event.

“Not a bad hourly rate for a 5 hour shift,” Crowe tweeted, adding there was a “bunch of stuff” he didn’t really want to sell coming home.

Items sold included a violin used in the 2003 film Master and Commander which went for $135,000, a replica Roman chariot from Gladiator which sold for $65,000 and costumes from 2012’s Les Miserables, in which Crowe played Javert, fetched up to $16,000.
