Fears are growing for Oscar-winner Gene Hackman, after a shocking US magazine report alleged he is enduring his ‘sad last days’ in obscurity and physical decline.
The legendary actor, 86, famed for his role in The French Connection movies, is said to have locked himself away in his New Mexico estate with his second wife, Betsy, who he wed in 1991.
‘He is spending what should be the sunset of his life seeing no one other than his wife Betsy,’ a source tells top-selling magazine Globe.
Likening him to an billionaire American who famously locked himself away, the source adds: “It’s like Howard Hughes all over again.”
And if Gene ever does leave his Sante Fe home it’s to go to a local bar in a hamlet called Tesuque, which has just 1,000 residents.
“He goes to Tesuque village market from time to time to drink booze, it’s the only bar in Tesuque,” the source alleges.
“He’s only been seen there a few times, and it’s hard not to notice how old he looks.”
