Heartbroken bride Nadia won support across Australia when she was dumped by her television husband Anthony just hours after the cameras stopped rolling.
And while the controversial race commentator has since been on the receiving end of public outrage for calling it quits on their short-lived union with little explanation, New Idea can exclusively reveal the real reason he had to end their toxic relationship.
With a shocking criminal past, stunning air hostess Nadia has been living a secret life vastly different to her onscreen girl-next-door image.
‘To begin with, Anthony was smitten with Nadia, but as time went by he started to notice she drank a lot,’ a close friend says.
‘He really didn’t want to be a part of a relationship like that and felt very uneasy about the whole situation.’
Her unbelievable charge sheet – which includes a driving ban for unpaid fines last year – came to a head after Nadia visited Anthony in Sydney.
He raised concerns about her drinking, telling the former model he didn’t see a future for them.
Taking the news badly and seemingly spiralling further out of control, the pretty brunette headed back to Brisbane where, just days later, on December 16, she was arrested for driving without a licence and drink-driving.
The matter was settled in court on January 19, with Nadia receiving a six-month ban from driving and a $1000 fine.
‘The night he told her it was over she really turned on him,’ says the friend. ‘He was so shocked, but when he heard the news about her charges he also knew he had done the right thing by ending it.’
