Jim Carrey’s ex girlfriend’s husband delivered a bombshell claiming the actor gave Cathriona White an STD.
Court papers show texts messages which White’s estranged husband, Mark Burton, intends to use as evidence in the a wrongful death lawsuit against Carrey.
White died by suicide last year aged 30.
‘I was tested right before we were together. Yes most likely something else,’ texts published on the Daily Mail show White saying in February 2013.
Carrey replied: ‘Thank you Cat. I care about you deeply. That’s obvious but this has been way too much for me to handle. I have been suffering with constant and dangerous levels of stress and I do have to let go. I’ve come to the end. Be well.’
Cat continued the conversation, admitting Carrey had been good to her ‘financially’ for which she is grateful.
In March, the conversation took a turn with Carrey expressing his impatience.
‘Cat. I’ve been way too generous and patient with you. I don’t know what you’re up to but I don’t I want to help you anymore,’ wrote Carrey.
‘Gosh Jim,’ replied Cat. ‘I’m doing everything you asked and wanting to text you every minute of the day. What am I doing? I am trying to hold myself together and then you send a text like that.’
Carrey’s legal team has described the lawsuit as ‘disgusting’ and an attempt to extort cash. Carrey responded to Burton’s lawsuit claims in a statement: ‘Is this the way a “husband” honors the memory of his “wife”? The real disease here is greed, shameful greed.’
He added: ‘What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world.’
Speaking to the Daily Mail Burton denied claims he was after the actor’s money.
‘This is not about money,’ he said. ‘This is about Jim Carrey coming clean about his relationship with Cat and what he did to her. This is about the truth.
‘I will not continue to stand idly by while Mr Carrey and his handlers deceive the world about what they did to Cat. How dare they invoke her memory in an effort to save Mr Carrey’s false persona?’
