As she nears the end of her battle with terminal liver cancer, Connie Johnson has opened up about the heartbreaking reality of the debilitating disease.
The sister of Gold Logie award-winning actor Samuel Johnson has shared an emotional social media post revealing that she feels “cheated out” of “normal daily experiences.”
“Lately it’s been hard for me to find the positives,” she penned on the Love Your Sister Facebook page.
“I have been mourning the loss of lots of my bodily function. I can’t walk anymore. Breathing has become difficult with the swelling of the liver. Sitting up is difficult with the swollen abdomen.”
The mother-of-two also admitted that eating had become “a bit of a chore.”
But despite her pain and suffering, Connie is still finding things to be grateful for.
“Today I realised that I still have my mind, there’s no cancer there,” she explained.
“I still have my hands and my arms for hugging my children, I still have my eyesight for seeing my friends, I still have my hearing for lovely conversations and music. I still have a couple of hours a day when I can do my craft. These are things to celebrate. I just feel so wonderfully happy.”
Earlier this week, the 40-year-old took to Instagram to share photos of herself spending time with loved ones in hospice.
“Quiet night chatting and colouring with an old friend,” she captioned one shot.
“Life can still have great moments and this is one of them. Peace, love and friendship at the hospice.”
The post has since been liked over 9000 times and has been flooded with comments from fans sending their well-wishes.
“Your light is so strong beautiful lady xxxx Thank you for sharing your heart with us,” one user wrote.
Another added: “You never cease to inspire me. You are life and love personified.”
