She announced the heartbreaking news earlier this year that her beloved stepfather Norm Axford had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
And, to mark Father’s Day, Casey Donovan took to Instagram earlier on today to share a heartfelt tribute to the man who brought her up.
Posting a collage of selfies, the Australian Idol star wrote:
“Happy Father’s Day Norm’o!! You’re my rock, my confidant, my hero. You stepped up and stepped in when I needed you most and still till this day you’re the first person I go to when I need advice on anything,” she wrote.
“This year has thrown you a massive curve ball but you have not let it get in your way. I know at times it has made you weak and on edge, just know that you’ve got this! With your strength and our love combine.. You’re pretty much a superhero!! Well, to me anyway :p I love you Norm’o Thanks for being the bestest Dad a girl could have Xxx”
The 28-year-old was given the devastating news that Norm had been diagnosed with stage one pancreatic cancer just hours she was crowned the winner of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here earlier this year.
“Pancreatic cancer is the second leading killer in the cancer family so Norm wants to make sure people get themselves checked out,” Casey told The Daily Telegraph at the time.
“And he couldn’t be more thankful for the staff at Bankstown Hospital for the level of professionalism but also the comfort and support they’ve given him and us as a family.”
