They haven’t toured Australia for over 40 years, however ABBA are finally headed Down under once again…well, sort of.
The Swedish pop legends have announced that they will be returning to Oz as holograms.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, band member Benny Andersson said he and Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad are currently being digitally recreated for an international tour in 2019, modelling them after how they looked in 1979 at the peak of their fame.
‘It will be like you’re in 1977, with a live band, live backing vocals, great set design with lights and sound, everything will be like a live concert. But we will be there in the form of holograms and digital avatars,’ Benny said.
‘Our voices will be taken from the records, or maybe some of the live vocals from the Australian tour. If you’re sitting up in the arena you’ll see us up there. It’s quite exciting.’
‘We can be on stage while I’m home walking the dogs. I don’t have to leave my house,’ he explained.
The last time the quartet were on our shores was 1977, and the band haven’t performed together in over 25 years – despite the lure of multiple multi-million tour offers.
