The Block has already descended into chaos at the first room reveals, and New Idea hears there’s a major clash brewing.
On Sunday night, Chantel and Wyatt were left furious when host Scotty Cam accused them of spending $20,700 – more than $10,000 over the proposed budget!
However, New Idea hears that they were wrongly accused due to a production error, leading to a clash that will see Scotty forced to make a grovelling apology.
Just one week into the competition, Chantel and Wyatt will threaten to quit, leading to an explosive meeting between them, Scotty, producer Julian Cress and The Block’s on-site psychologist Simon.
Though Chantel and Wyatt were in the right, our sources claim that their enraged reaction raises alarm bells with Scotty when the situation spirals beyond anyone’s expectations.
“Scotty has seen human error happen on building sites for decades,” a production insider tells New Idea. “Nobody was pretending it wasn’t a serious error. But he felt most contestants would have handled it very differently.”
“From his perspective, the reaction didn’t seem to match the mistake itself. That’s when he became suspicious there was more going on beneath the surface.”
In fact, the upcoming confrontation is set to be one of the rare occasions that a contestant has ever spoken to Scotty with such hostility.
“I don’t think anyone in the history of The Block has spoken to Scotty the way House Two did,” our source adds. “He wasn’t used to that, and it certainly wasn’t something he appreciated.”
While Scotty may not have been the one to make the error, he certainly bore the brunt of Chantel and Wyatt’s enraged reaction.
“He wasn’t the one working out the measurements. He wasn’t the one doing the calculations,” the insider explains.
“He’s the face of the show, so he had to deliver the message exactly as production instructed. He was essentially following the script he was given.”
And he’s feeling the frustration over viewers, no doubt, blaming him for the mix-up as the face of The Block.
“Sometimes it looks as though the prize money is coming out of his own pocket, and when things go wrong behind the scenes, he’s the one viewers see holding people accountable,” our source adds.
“That’s simply how the show is structured, even when the mistake wasn’t his.”
According to sources, Scotty preferred the responsibility for the error to be shared, which is why executive producer Julian will be a part of the discussion.
Those close to production claim the incident permanently altered Scotty’s view of Wyatt and Chantel.
“Scotty has always had favourites over the years and, equally, contestants he finds more difficult to work with,” our insider adds.
“Everyone on set could tell House Two had quickly landed in that second category.”
The veteran host is said to have little interest in prolonged on-site feuds, preferring contestants to focus on renovating rather than conflict.
With the show forced to break the fourth wall to address the catastrophic mix-up, all eyes are waiting to see if Chantel and Wyatt actually pack their bags.
One thing is clear: This is set to be one of the 2026 series’ defining moments.
