Prince Harry’s soon- to-be bride Meghan Markle is ‘lonely, isolated and frustrated’ as she struggles to adjust to royal life, New Idea can reveal.
‘She is not happy and is finding things very tough at the moment,’ an exclusive royal source reveals.
Those close to the Suits actress say that although there is no suggestion she is going to break off the engagement and cause a massive scandal, she has said she needs changes to happen fast or there will be major problems.
In public, Meghan, 36, has been all smiles and hugs as she met the people on walkabouts in London, Cardiff and Edinburgh.
But behind the scenes insiders say she is missing her mother and friends back home, and is feeling increasingly isolated as she can’t lead a normal life anymore. Another factor is that she’s having major withdrawal after closing all her social media accounts.
Phil Dampier, author of Royally Suited, which tells Harry and Meghan’s story in their own words, says it’s no surprise Meghan is struggling with life in the royal bubble.
‘She is having several massive changes at once in her life and she is only human. I’m sure she wants to get out there and do things her way because she has always been a very headstrong and independent woman, but it’s not so easy within palace walls.
‘Harry wants to change the ancient institution of the monarchy but you can’t do it overnight and Meghan is going to have to learn to be patient.’
Princess Diana once complained that there is no manual given to you when you join the royal family, and Meghan has also found herself thrown in at the deep end.
‘Prince Harry is helping her as much as possible because he knows what happened to his mother and is desperate not to lose the love of his life, but maybe he has underestimated what Meghan is going through,’ says the source in London.
‘As she is an actress and that much older than Diana was, he probably thought she could cope much better, but now he is realising she is not finding it so easy.
With the wedding on May 19 approaching rapidly, Meghan’s frustrations are simmering beneath the surface.
‘She can’t potter about on the High Street, attend gym classes or jog around Hyde Park.
‘Instead she is confined to yoga at home or visits to Kate and William in Apartment 1A. Kate loves her but is unable to give her undivided attention because she is busy with the children and her pregnancy.’
However, Dampier states that while it is a lot to handle, Meghan is sure to eventually get used to her new life.
‘Apart from anything else, organising a wedding is stressful for any bride-to-be, deciding on the guest list and all the details.
‘Once the wedding is out of the way she can start to build her royal career and some of the frustration will disappear.
