A well-placed royal source has revealed how Prince William and Kate Middleton overcame rumours that the Duke of Cambridge had an affair with Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley.

A close Middleton family friend told Us Weekly the Duchess of Cambridge – who shares Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis with the future King – found the rumours “hurtful, obviously, and hates the thought that one day her children will be able to read about them online”.

The source went on to reveal that the royal couple were forced to examine their relationship as a result of the cheating rumours.

“It forced her and William to sit back and examine their relationship, which they realised they should have been doing more often,” a pal told the publication.

A second source revealed that Kate and William are “determined to pull through it and are doing a great job at getting their marriage back on track again.”

“It’s not unusual to have a few hiccups in a marriage, especially after eight years, and Kate and William are no different,” the second insider revealed. “They’re still going strong. Regardless of their ups and downs, they love each other dearly and their kids are the most important thing in their lives.”

An insider recently told New Idea that Kate was rattled by the fact that Rose attended the State Banquet held by the Queen to honour President Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain.

“Kate demanded she speak to the Queen’s top aide and said that she wanted to be assured she was sat on the opposite side of the room to Rose, which Queen Elizabeth approved at the last minute knowing how catastrophic it would be if Kate pulled out,” the royal insider revealed.

Due to his position as 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley and Lord Great Chamberlain, Rose’s husband David Rocksavage is often required to attend significant royal events in London such as this one.

While David and his wife were once close friends of the Cambridges – the couples are Norfolk neighbours with the Cholmondeleys living just minutes from the Cambridge country bolthole of Anmer Hall; their children were also playmates of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – in March, The Sun newspaper revealed they’d had a major falling out with William and Kate.
