While the fallout over Lisa’s shock exit continues, attention is now turning to who’ll replace the respected host.
At the time of going to press, Channel Nine presenter Georgie Gardner was front-runner for the job, with WAG Bec Judd and PR guru Roxy Jacenko being name as possible new co-hosts for Karl.
But while all bets were on Georgie, Nine insiders warn her relationship with Karl could be even rockier.
‘Georgie and Karl have completely different personalities – she is very conservative and Karl is a joker,’ the insider tells New Idea. ‘She never liked his schoolboy sense of humour. She was always rolling her eyes at his behaviour. A lot of staff are shocked she agreed to come back.
‘Most of the production crew wants Sylvia. She is so easy to work with. But she is vanilla and they need a mum in that position. Especially because they lost Lisa in the way they did. They need to show they support working mums.
‘It was always known Karl was the main reason Georgie quit Today in 2014. She likes to think she is a bit better than those cheap jokes Karl cracks.’
