If you’re one of those people who practically lives in their active wear, you might want to rethink your wardrobe choices.
Turns out wearing our active wear every day can’t be all that good for your health. Sure, they are the ideal outfit for your daily workout, but the Daily Mail Australia reports that wearing them longer than the recommended 30 minutes a day can cause a range of nasty problems, including rashes, yeast infections and folliculitis.
Spokesperson for the Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD), Dr Li-Chuen Wong told the Daily Mail Australia how body-hugging material your active wear is made of can cause these problems.
“Dermatitis can be caused from friction and sweat,” she said. “All sorts of fabrics are problematic, from cotton, which absorbs sweat, to polyester, which is awful for the skin.”
How do we beat this problem? Wong recommends showering afterwards to prevent your post workout sweat from causing any damage.
“Nothing beats showering directly after a workout and not wearing your active wear all of the time,” she says. “Sweat-wicking fabrics can only do so much.”
On the bright side, it seems like a great excuse to give yourself a post workout pampering session!
