Q: You are in great shape. What does your exercise routine involve?
A: I change it up a lot. I used to be a real runner, but my knees no longer love it. I do a lot of biking and hiking. I really love explosive exercise with lots of jumping and push-ups, as you never know what is going to happen next. I have even tried Cross Fit, but that is so brutal! I used to love yoga but these days, I just can’t get to a 90minute class. I don’t have that kind of time, so I always look for ways to make my workouts faster and more furious!
Q: Is it hard to keep it together, with three young boys (Oliver 9 and twins Johnny and Gus, 7) and your work and personal commitments?
A: It is hard! Somebody once told me to liken it to when you’re on a plane and the oxygen masks fall down. They tell you to fit yours first, before putting them on your kids. For me that is really hard, because if a kid needs something, they need something. If I’m on the way out the door to work out and there is a scraped knee or homework to be done… I tend to say, ‘you know, I can skip it for the kids.’ I try to be flexible and not super rigid.
Q: What were the biggest changes you noticed in your skin and body after having three children?
A: Nobody will ever see my tummy again! There is laxity issue. Some things are better though – I really like not having so much baby fat in my face. I feel like I have more bone structure.
Q:What is your Number One tip for feeling great and staying healthy?
A: I used to say, ‘Sleep is for the weak.’ But now, all the data says it is really good for you! I now prioritise sleep and I realise that I function better when I sleep properly. When the kids were younger, I would stay up later for one-on-one time with my husband, but now we all prioritise sleep. We turn off our devices earlier and go to bed earlier.
Q: You tweeted a picture of you in bed with your son and the dog the other day. That was so cute!
A: Oh yes … there is always someone in the bed with us!
Q: What is your diet like? Do you have a favourite indulgence?
A: I eat a lot of big salads and throw in chicken, shrimp or quinoa. I can eat that day after day. I need to eat ice cream every couple of weeks. If I don’t have it, I feel like I am missing out. Luckily, with kids, there is always ice cream!
