And the stars who wore it best.

The Golden Globes are about honouring the best of the best in the entertainment industry. Well, in theory anyway.

But let’s face it – the vast majority of us are far more interested in the men and women who float down the red carpet, in particular their stunning gowns, incredible hair and amazing beauty looks. In that respect the 2019 version of the event was no different than every other year. The red carpet had our attention on lock.

And it’s easy to see why.

There were frocks of frothy red tulle, lilac satin fit for a princess, fitted bodices, full skirts, glittering diamonds, sequins and much, more more.

Then of course, there was the head-turning beauty looks.

The makeup trend that stood out on this glittering night of nights – swept back hair, bright, bold eyes which were pared back with barely-there, nude lips.

Camilla Belle stunned with turquoise eyeshadow that covered her entire eyelids to the brow bone. The look was strong and sexy and worked beautifully with I just stepped out of the ocean hair and mermaid-styled gown.

Try it yourself with a softer, more neutral shade of shadow, or, if you love the turquoise consider applying it to the upper eyelid only. If that’s still too much add a touch of blue eyeliner. You’ll be amazed at how even a tiny touch of blue will lift the eye and give you a modern, sharp look.

Lili Reinhart followed the trend also opting for a strong eye look and a perfectly pretty pout.

She went for a smoky pink eyeshadow that made her eyes shine. Her full mouth was heaven with a soft, pink rose semi-matte lipstick – that’s right – matte but with just a hint of dewy softness to it. Fancy this look yourself?

If true pink is not quite you, try a soft cream shadow with a hint of blush to it. Pink and red near the eye might sound counter-intuitive but it actually makes the whites of your eyes look healthy and bright and causes your pupils to sparkle. Who doesn’t want a bit of that?

Caitriona Balfre opted for ruby red jewel tones for her gown and sensational silver shimmer for her eye makeup.

Her eyes were soft and sexy with a silver shadow that was applied from lash line to brows. It was richly applied to her upper eyelid and then softly smudged for a sweet, flattering effect. Caitriona also wore the shadow underneath her lower lash line – an application trick that makes small eyes appear bigger.

Once again, a nude lip – this time a gloss version highlighting her natural, full mouth.

For a touch of quirk and fun, diamond barettes to hold back her brunette locks. You might like to try the faux version! They look every bit as good and nobody will pick the difference anyway!
