Pop star Charli XCX always turns heads but her beauty look at the 2019 Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (May 6) in New York City may be her best ever.
The 26-year-old singer wore a neon yellow gown for this, her first-ever Met Gala appearance, teamed with the sweetest of pink eyeshadows which she pared back with an oh-so-flattering nude lip.
Her hair was styled into a blunt bob with the ends dyed fuchsia (to work with that incredible eye) and a choppy straight fringe. All in all – incredible.
But back to that eye makeup. Charli’s amazing almond-shaped eyes are a deep chocolate brown which means the soft pink complemented them beautifully. She also wore a fine line of rich black liner along the upper lash line and maximum lashes giving her an incredibly flattering doe-eyed look.
Her skin was close to bare with just a hint of sheer colour meaning her lovely freckles were there for all the world to see. Just how we like them!
Before the big event, Charli posed in nothing but a towel and shared the pic to Instagram.
“met gala 2019 I’m coming for you!!!!! 💕💓,” she captioned the cheeky shot. This year, the gala theme is ‘Camp’ – the inspiration being Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay Notes on ‘Camp.’
The Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institute Benefit, is always chaired by a team of the world’s most famous. This year it’s headed up by entertainer Lady Gaga, tennis great Serena Williams, and singer Harry Styles. Famed Gucci designer Alessandro Michele is part of the team and style queen US Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
Michelle Crofts make up artist and founder of Harlotte Cosmetics, says this bold eye is perfect for those who want to be the centre of attention. It’s also bang on trend right now – so even if you’re a little shy why not give it a try. You may find your confidence is boosted when the compliments roll in. And we reckon they will.
“Dynamic bold eyes are making a statement this season when teamed with a soft lip and minimal contour,” says Michelle.
“The bold eye is perfect with a little black dress, killer fuchsia gown or white power suit.”
If you really want to try it but don’t think pink is for you, Yes, try a more subdued tone such as a gold or neutral brown, suggests Michelle. Or, stick with the neon hue but apply on the eyelid or, along the upper lash line only. Oh and one other thing – you will need to rock a certain attitude.
“To wear a look like this you need to confident, bubbly and be prepared to catch people’s attention. In other words, own it,” says Michelle.
