The star, who shot to fame as Darryl Braxton in Home and Away, will play a toyboy love interest for Heather, played by Doris Younane.

‘I guess I was (surprised when I saw Ben and Heather get together) it’s not something you see all the time,’ the star told the Daily Telegraph of the age gap romance.

‘There’s this perception people want all this fake stuff all the time, but I think people actually just want natural.

‘And I think it’s a really cool thing that the writers threw that in, that’s what a lot of people might like about the relationship, I think.’

Steve left Home and Away in 2016, moving with actress wife Bridgette Sneddon to Hollywood.

He won roles in movies Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Me Before You.

But he never severed his connection to Australia, and Stephen and Bridgette attended a Dollars For Dust fundraiser in Sydney, in August last year, to help raise money for drought-stricken farmers.

‘I’m so glad to be able to be a part of an event like Dollars For Dust,’ Stephen, who was born and raised in Dubbo in country NSW, told New Idea last year. ‘Having grown up in the Central West, it’s a cause that means a lot to me.’
