Steve Peacocke may be a household name, but he’s also a true blue Aussie gentleman.
A couple of years in Hollywood hasn’t tarnished the Dubbo-raised actor’s good manners and work ethic.
Sitting in a rare ray of New Zealand sunshine, sipping tea on the set of Wanted season two, Steve shrugs off praise he’s kept a good head on his shoulders despite becoming one of Home And Away’s biggest exports.
‘It doesn’t seem that difficult,’ he tells New Idea.
‘I don’t know how people construct so much [drama]. I think you just lie low, do the work. I’m a quiet person by nature, so there’s never too much drama that follows me around. I’ll leave the drama to when they say “action.”’
Now based in Los Angeles with his wife and fellow Home And Away alumni Bridgette Sneddon, the 35-year-old cracked the US market with roles in hit films Me Before You and Whisky Tango Foxtrot.
But being the level- headed person he is, Steve – who plays Detective Josh Levine on Wanted – is doing his best not to get caught up in the Hollywood whirlwind.
‘I’m still figuring out the mechanics of how things work,’ he explains.
‘I’ve found out if something does well at the box office, people come knocking!
‘There have been opportunities off the back of both those films, just not the right opportunity yet. I guess I’m choosy with things.’
In fact, Steve’s motto is: ‘If you work on quality projects and with quality people, things seem to work themselves out.’
And it’s for that very reason he is returning to our screens on the second season of Rebecca Gibney’s popular Channel Seven drama.
‘I didn’t know if I was going to be asked back,’ he admits. ‘I’m just so grateful to be here.’
