Tom Cruise has not seen his 10-year-old daughter Suri for three whole years, according to shock claims.
While Tom lives in LA and Suri is based in New York, US reports state that Tom has made no attempt to spend time with his daughter.
‘If he wanted to see her, he could see her,’ a source told the NY Post. ‘Even people in prison have a right to see their children.’
And, reportedly, it all comes down to one reason… Scientology. According to the 2015 documentary Going Clear, Katie and Suri were declared ‘suppressive persons’ by the controversial religion, which requires Tom to cut off all contact with them, a claim the church denies.
After wife Katie Holmes filed for divorce in 2012, it was reported that Tom cut off all contact with Suri shortly after. In his libel case, Tom denied that stating, ‘[That’s] the same thing my father did and suggesting that’s something I’m doing… I find that greatly offensive.’
Despite these words, OK magazine cites a source close to Katie stating that Tom has not seen Suri, although he still pays $400,000 a year in child support, a fraction of his $480 million fortune.
Nonetheless, reports say Suri is ‘thriving’ despite her father’s absence from her life, with an insider telling Gossip Cop, ‘She’s got lots of friends and a nice, normal life. This is his loss, his issue, his problem. He must be really brainwashed.’
The reported lack of contact echoes the situation faced by Nicole Kidman after Tom unexpectedly divorced her in 2001. Like Katie, Nicole was allegedly labelled a ‘suppressive person’ and her children Connor and Isabella, who stayed with their father, reportedly refused to see her, despite their custody arrangement. They still have minimal contact to this day.
