Sonia Kruger’s controversial decision to advocate restricting Muslim immigration to Australia was ‘silly’, and came from not being ‘well-educated’ on the subject, says her former The Voice co-host, Darren McMullen.
Revealing that he ‘totally disagrees’ with the star’s controversial comments – which came in the wake of a series of terror attacks in Europe – Darren suggests she was unaware of all the facts.
‘Unfortunately it came from a place of fear with her, and if we’re coming at any problem like this, with fear, we’re going to make some silly decisions,’ he said in an interview with news.com.au.
‘I would hope that people in the public eye see that they do have a responsibility to be well-educated on the subject they’re speaking about.’
Darren went on to say that white Australians shouldn’t be advocating immigration restrictions given the history of the country’s settlement.
‘Let’s be honest, all us white folk are visitors in [Australia] and came off the boat at some stage for a better life. I find it a bit hilarious when people who invaded a country centuries ago and claimed it as their own then start trying to close up the borders and keep everyone out.
‘I’m not a guy who believes in borders, I really don’t. I think we’re all human beings and until we actually start acting like human beings, of one human race, we’re going to have continuing problems.’
Darren’s comments come after a backlash against Sonia for her views – although she has since insisted the subject should not be closed to discussion.
