The star – who created a stir during a televised debate on the Nine Network – insists she was right to raise the issue.

‘Following the atrocities of the last week in Nice, where 10 children lost their lives, as a mother, I believe it’s vital in a democratic society to be able to discuss these issues without automatically being labelled racist,’ she wrote this afternoon on social media.

The comments have sparked heated debate on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, with Islamophobia Register Australia president Mariam Veiszadeh hoping friendship is the way forward – inviting the star for a coffee so they could discuss and relieve her anxieties.

‘What needs to be considered is the fact that her proposal – which is echoing Donald Trump’s and Pauline Hanson’s proposals – is potentially unconstitutional and in breach of our international legal obligations,’ Mariam told The Queensland Times
