Speaking in an interview with US ELLE, the 26-year-old singer talked about her marriage to Liam, whom she wed in December 2018.
“I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married. But my relationship is unique,” Miley said of the couple’s on-again, off-again romance.
” I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word,” she admitted.
The Wrecking Ball singer admitted she prefers to keep her relationship private, and rarely opens up completely about her marriage.
“I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it,” she said.
“I mean, do people really think that I’m at home in a f**king apron cooking dinner? I’m in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women.”
She added: “People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still f**king good, and I know that. I made a partner decision.”
While Liam, 29, and Miley have been together, on and off, since 2010, she says starting a family isn’t a priority for the couple right now.
“If you don’t want children, people feel sorry for you, like you’re a cold, heartless bitch who’s not capable of love,” she said of the expectations put onto women.
“We’re expected to keep the planet populated. And when that isn’t a part of our plan or our purpose, there is so much judgment and anger that they try to make and change laws to force it upon you—even if you become pregnant in a violent situation,” she shared.
“Why are we trained that love means putting yourself second and those you love first? If you love yourself, then what? You come first.”
She added: “We’ve been doing the same thing to the earth that we do to women. We just take and take and expect it to keep producing. And it’s exhausted. It can’t produce. We’re getting handed a piece-of-s**t planet, and I refuse to hand that down to my child. Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, I’m not bringing in another person to deal with that. ”
Miley has been embracing her power as a woman, and sharing her thoughts on female body autonomy via her recent Instagram posts.
A recent post of a graphic image along with the bold statement: “Virginity is a social construct” splashed below, raised eyebrows amongst fans.
“Yes and placing a woman’s value based on virginity is a social construct designed by men to belittle and enslaved women!!!” said one fan in response.
Another agreed: “So true… and the fact that men don’t get the same treatment and judgment when they lose their virginity compared to women… disgusting but no surprising…”
“There’s an emotional/mental aspect to it so this isn’t necessarily true, it’s just not as important as some people make it out to be,” another fan said.
