From global leaders to pop stars and athletes, the world has paused to remember boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
As a fellow Parkinson’s sufferer, Michael J Fox posted a touching message to about Ali. “Ali, the G-O-A-T. A giant, an inspiration, a man of peace, a warrior for the cure. Thank you,” he wrote on Twitter.
Fox also said in a statement, “Muhammad was a true legend – a champion in the boxing ring, and a champion for millions of Parkinson’s families. We looked up to him as an example of grace and courage in the face of great challenges. He will be missed.”
Upon sharing a photo of herself and her partner Stedman Graham with Ali, Oprah Winfrey had mentioned that she had seen the heavyweight “fight multiple times” and described him as “a true hero”.
She also shared another image of Ali’s 2001 appearance on The Oprah Winfrey show.
The Rock was another star to share a heartfelt message of how Ali impacted on him personally.
“Like me, Ali inspired generations around the world to be hungry to achieve, work as hard as you possibly can, to be a great as you possibly can be and make sure that not a day goes by where you don’t do your absolute best to make the world smile and feel good. Feel inspired. And feel that no matter how hard times may be, there’s always hope for tomorrow,” he wrote.
Among the other celebrities who shared messages for Ali include Elton John, Mariah Carey, Halle Berry and Chris Rock.
