There’s nothing picture perfect about Eminem and Kim’s relationship – their relationship was a rollercoaster of emotions. They tried to work it out several times for their daughter Hailie but in the end, the pair decided to call it quits.

Who Is Eminem?
Marshall Mathers (Eminem’s real name) has one of the most famous rags-to-riches stories in the music industry. His pre-millennium cult hit, ‘The Real Slim Shady’, propelled a dishwasher-by-day and rap-artist-by-night to a $USD 210-million dollar rap god.
He was able to garner 15 Grammys throughout his career, and he also earned an Oscar for his original song ‘Lose Yourself’ for the movie 8-mile.
Despite being a heavily decorated artist now, success did not come easy for Marshall. He grew up in poverty and was constantly neglected, abused, and bullied. But like the true rap artist that he is, Eminem’s turbulent personal life became fodder for his music.
Many of his most memorable songs take inspiration from his tumultuous relationships with three significant women: Debbie (Eminem’s mother), Hailie (Eminem’s daughter), and Kim (Eminem’s ex-wife). The latter being the most controversial one.
Who Is Kim In Eminem’s Life?
Kimberly Anne Scott was born together with her twin sister Dawn Scott on January 9, 1975. Just like Eminem, her childhood was fraught with trauma. After being sexually abused by her alcoholic stepfather, she and her sister ran away and moved to a youth home.
While attending a house party, a then 13-year-old Kim met a 15-year-old Eminem who was singing on top of a table to LL Cool J’s ‘I am Bad.’ Perhaps misery does love company because before long the two developed a romantic relationship.
Kim and her sister later decided to move in with Eminem and his mother. At first, Debbie was upset with having to care for the two sisters but, later on, she eased up and grew fond of them.
While living with Eminem, Kim got pregnant with their first child when she was just 20 years old. She gave birth to her daughter, Hailie Jade Mathers, on Christmas Day, December 25, 1995.
Tensions between the couple continued to grow as Eminem’s career began to take off. They had been on-and-off for a while and eventually when Hailie was just 12 months old, Kim had enough and decided to move out. But, in 1999, the two rekindled their relationship and got married in St. Joseph Mo later that year.
From Bad To Worse
The couple’s marital bliss did not last long. In June 2000, Eminem was arrested for assaulting John Guerrera. Allegedly, John was caught kissing Eminem’s spouse, Kim, in the parking lot of the Hot Rock Sports Bar. This incident was referenced in Eminem’s song ‘The Kiss’ for his 2002 album, The Eminem Show.
As much as Eminem is considered to have a rather private personal life nowadays, back then he did not shy away from expressing his anger towards Kim in his music.
The Marshall Mathers LP, released in 2000, contained one of Eminem’s most controversial songs to date: the infamous ‘Kim’. Being a song that bears the name of Eminem’s wife, you could be forgiven for thinking that it’s some sort of love song. But in true Slim Shady fashion, it turned out to be the exact opposite.
Eminem’s ‘Kim’ lyrics are emotionally aggressive, to say the least. It starts out with Eminem imitating Kim’s voice as he creates a narrative of him and Kim arguing. The song ends with him portraying an image of murdering Kim for cheating on him.
This destroyed Kim emotionally, especially after Eminem performed the song on-stage in his Up in Smoke tour while assaulting a blow-up doll which was said to represent her. The act broke her to the point that Kim attempted to take her own life by slashing her own wrists.
Kim was able to survive the suicide attempt, but it was just the start of a series of disastrous events in her life.
In 2001, she and Eminem got a divorce. This devastated her financially because she couldn’t land a permanent job. She then turned to drugs and in the same year, she was arrested for drug possession. Later, in 2003, she was charged again with driving under the influence and she was fined and kept on probation. She ended up violating the terms of her probation and was sentenced to one-month jail time.
Following her release, Kim and Eminem remarried in 2006, but soon got separated three months later. Kim claims in later interviews that their second marriage was rushed.
Kim was able to handle the second divorce better than the first. But, in 2016, Kim’s twin sister, Dawn, died due to a drug overdose. This broke Kim…
She again attempted to commit suicide by driving her Escalade into a pole. Luckily, she survived the crash.

Currently, Eminem is not married to anyone. He has been involved in several dating rumours since his split with Kim in 2006. Last year, he was rumoured to be dating Nicki Minaj.

The song was honest, a bit messy, and did not give a concrete resolution. In a way, it serves as a poignant metaphor for the stormy love affair of Eminem and Kim.
