She was held captive in a cellar for eight years, but now a free woman, Natascha Kampusch owns the house she spent most of her childhood in as a prisoner in an attempt to stop it being turned into a ‘theme park’.
Wolfgang Priklopil kidnapped Kampusch on her way to school when she was 10 years old. During this time she was beaten, starved and turned into his sex slave.
On August 23 2006, Kampusch managed to flee to a neighbours house, who then called the police.
In an interview with Seven’s Sunday Night, Kampusch, 28, gave Rahni Sadler a tour of the house, explaining spending time in the house was ‘(therapeutic) … in a special way
Acknowledging that a normal man would not be able to do what Priklopil, Kampusch said ‘he was a victim too, I think.’
For that who disagree, she says: ‘Wasn’t it enough that I was kidnapped… it was horrible?’
That said, Kampusch feels it’s important not to have ‘false people’ who doubt her in the house, which she still cleans from top to bottom.
‘I don’t want to have a theme park in here,’ she tells Sadler.
‘I have found freedom in myself and I am very centred now. Lots of people think that such a crime could never happen to them but it isn’t true.’
