Cassandra Thornburn has jetted off on an idyllic getaway after her ex-husband Karl Stefanovic admitted to feeling “cooked” before his unmerciful sacking from Nine’s Today show.

WATCH Karl get candid about his dismissal from Channel Nine’s hit breakfast show and dish on his new wife Jasmine Yarbrough:

With her estranged ex making headlines once more, the mother-of-three, 48, took to her Instagram to share a shot of an infinity pool in what is believed to be Fiji. She captioned it “school holidays rejuvenation time”.

Cassandra and Karl, 44, who were together for 21 years, have three children together, Jackson, 19, Ava, 13, and River, 12.

The pair are no longer on speaking terms after he walked out on Cassandra and struck up a relationship with designer Jasmine Yarbrough, 34, just a few months later. They were married in an OTT Mexican soiree in December just a few days before Karl was sacked.

Cassandra had been tipped to attend Sunday’s Logies on the Gold Coast following her stint on Dancing With The Stars and her role as a panelist on Studio 10, but a few days before the ceremony she revealed she was an RSVP: no.

Her trip might be perfect timing with Karl making headlines once more after he finally broke his silence about his shock axing last December.

Nine’s former golden boy opened up at a post-Logies brunch in Queensland on Monday, after the 61st annual TV Week Logie Awards went off with a bang at the Star Gold Coast.

Speaking in his capacity as the event’s co-host, the embattled anchor – who is a Gold Logie winner himself – revealed he was “struggling” towards the end of last year when he got word about his dumping whilst on honeymoon with his new wife, Jasmine.

“It was good to be back last night. It’s been about six months since I was on the telly, and I needed to have a rest.

“Towards the end of last year, I was cooked,” the axed presenter began.

“It had taken its toll. A lot of the attention – all the unwarranted attention, I thought, and you can’t control any of that.

“I’m not going to complain too much about that, but what it meant was that in a work capacity, I don’t believe for a second I was at my best.

“I think I was struggling towards the end of last year.”

While he admitted his Today axing came as a major blow, the Sydney-based star said it also brought a sense of relief.

“I just wasn’t at my best, and you can’t be doing that show unless you’re at the top of your game. You’ve got to be sharp, you’ve got to be witty, you’ve got to be funny.

“You’ve got to see the angles, and to be honest at the end of last year, I wasn’t seeing much.”

Karl was replaced by veteran journalists Georgie Gardner and Deborah Knight who continue to front the breakfast show.

The exit came as Karl’s brother Peter Stefanovic shocked Australian viewers by also being sacked from Nine, while his wife Sylvia Jeffreys has also since left the Today Show.

More than six months on, Karl is ready to take on a new role as host of the second season of Nine’s hit series, This Time Next Year.
